Taking The Classroom Outdoors With Rowland Homes

29th January 2015

Local children from St Lawrence CE Primary School in Barton swapped the classroom for a construction site to learn about building homes and materials as part of an education initiative with leading North West developer Rowland Homes.

Four and five year old pupils from the school visited Rowland’s Barton Heath development to start off their new topic on construction.

The children were able to get hands on and touch and feel the different construction materials used to build a house as well as being able to ask lots of questions with the staff from Rowland Homes.

As part of the visit the children were presented with high vis vests and got to watch the plant machinery in action, as it started cleaning and preparing the site where 62 houses are being built in the coming year. They are also completing a colouring competition as part of this joint initiative.

Paul Skelly, contracts manager for Rowland commented:

“It’s a real pleasure to help out on construction projects for local schools. St Lawrence CE Primary School is a part of our local community of Barton and the children were a credit to the school. We were glad to have been able to give them a good understanding of the various materials and construction methods that go into building a new home, which will hopefully be a great starting point for their construction project. We’re looking forward to seeing the results at the end of the topic.”

Teacher Miss Atkinson commented: “We really enjoyed the session we had at the Rowland Homes site. The children enjoyed every moment of it and were excited to be learning in an environment away from the classroom. The demonstration of the use of machinery really excited the children who have been acting out being builders and digger drivers ever since.”

Located off Forest Grove in Barton, the 2, 3 & 4 bedroom homes at Barton Heath look traditional from the outside and are finished in various types of brick, render and external building material finishes, to create a feeling of a mature community.

Homebuyers can also appreciate the development for themselves by visiting Barton Heath where they can view the newly opened show home, open Thursday, Friday & Monday from 10.30am to 5pm and Saturday & Sunday 10.30am to 5.30pm.
