Every day, construction creates materials that can go to waste or be given a second life. At Rowland, we’re proud to partner with The Woodhouse in Preston, part of the Community Wood Recycling network, to make sure our waste wood becomes something much more powerful.
What makes The Woodhouse special?
Run by local charity Integrate, it supports adults with learning disabilities by providing real training, employment, and a sense of purpose. All the timber collected from our sites is reused—not just recycled—helping the environment and supporting people in our community.
From its beginnings in 1998 with a few planks of plywood spotted outside a factory, the Community Wood Recycling movement has grown into a nationwide network, saving over 20,000 tonnes of wood each year and creating life-changing opportunities for people who’ve faced barriers to work—be it disability, addiction recovery, homelessness, or refugee status.
George Rowley, Deputy MD at Rowland, reflects:
“We’re committed to recycling 100% of site waste. But this partnership goes beyond sustainability—it reflects our values. We’re helping people live full lives and supporting a circular economy that benefits everyone.”
Huge thanks to the team at The Woodhouse and Community Wood Recycling for making this possible. Together, we’re building more than homes—we’re building brighter futures.
